ThoroughlyDead just keeps slipping and slipping....

This is just a simple process shrink. No design changes like Intel's NorthWood and no major process changes like Intel's addition of copper. Even so they will get just a tiny boost in frequency. We've been telling you folks that AMD shot their wad by using .13u transistors while desperately trying to keep up with Intel and now it's caught up with them. When are you going to believe us?

And then there's that matter of "World Class Yields"....

Thoroughbred to launch mid-May

Later than expected
By Mike Magee, 12/04/2002 10:18:54 BST

A CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENT SEEN by the INQUIRER shows that AMD will introduce a model 2200+ (1.8GHz) Thoroughbred XP between "mid-May and the end of June".
As we discussed earlier this year, the three differences from Palomono are the CPUID changes to 680H, the voltage changes to 1.65V and passive components will sit on top of the packaging.

AMD is warning that to support 2.0GHz operations, the onboard regulator must be capable of yielding 45 amps.

And the 2.0GHz Athlon XP's model number is still to be decided it appears, as the following snap somewhat bafflingly shows.

AMD is saying that the XP with socket A and DDR is being positioned to grow bigger market share in the desktop, with its bigger brother, the MP, aimed at appliance and 1-2P servers and workstations.

Clawhammer is still positioned to launch in Q4, but it looks from the graphic we saw it will be earlier rather than later inthe quarter.

And Barton MP and Barton itself are still on the roadmap for the second half of this year – although we understand there is still some doubt about this family's future. µ
