Al Quaida is still a threat but may be finished now.
Just captured another key guy today. Bin Lauden is either dead or in deep hiding in very poor health.

Anything could happen in that shadow world but now that global law enforcement and intelligence is all over the situation, there are very few places they can hide. So, is the War On Terror all but ove? Saddam is a separate problem. Hamas and Hezbollah are mainly a Israeli problem. So it is possible this could all begin to fade from the front pages after a few more months.
I look at it as a sort of bug extermination project. The bugs main nesting areas have been cleaned-out now. Only remnants remain scattered around plus the nests around Israel.

Bush would very much like to keep this war going for years to help get himself re-elected (not his only reason of course but it's a big consideration) but unless he can convince the world we should go to war against Saddam again (to finish Poppy's job for him) then this whole thing could simmer down.

Some say a majority of Iranians want democracy and the Islamic extremists out. Now that Pakistan is cleaning house and we're in Yemen that's two more bugs nests that are being minimized. Where else is the next leg of any war on terrorism going to come from? No single group or rogue country has anywhere near the might to F with the US now. Our only real fear now might be a dirty bomb a la 9/11. But we are much more vigilant than before so the chances are slim of that happening. Like criminals, terrorists tend to disappear and hide when the "cops" are patrolling. And if relative peace can come to Palestine then we may be back to "normal" again soon.

The one big issue is Iraq. Bush would love to take Saddam out, but without support from Turkey, the Saudis and Britain, what a risky play that would be. A covert CIA op might be a better idea. Find a way to take him out a la Tom Clancy's "Clear And Present Danger". Or else just keep the pressure on if and when he refuses to let in arms inspectors. Then the UN would have no choice but to support some sort of limited action.
