Extreme Shares Up on Hopes of Stable Revenue View
``The Juniper call wasn't as bad as people thought it could be,'' Becklean said, pointing to the Cisco Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:CSCO - news) rival's guidance of flat revenues in its current quarter compared to first-quarter revenues.
``I think they'll suggest the market is modestly stable, with modest opportunities for growth,'' said Erik Suppiger, an analyst with Pacific Growth Equities.
``It does seem like there will be stability in corporate profits in the March quarter,'' said Ilya Grozovsky, an analyst with SoundView Technology Group. ``Continued stability is good for enterprise spending.''
Extreme faces competition from Cisco, the biggest maker of network gear, which is expected to make a serious push for buyers with its size, deep pockets and product range, according to CIBC World Markets Corp. analyst Stave Kamman.
``It's a tough market out there with Cisco getting more aggressive,'' Kamman said, noting he rates Extreme a 'hold.'
``Cisco has three advantages,'' Kamman said. ``First, it can bundle products that Extreme doesn't offer. Second, it can leverage global distribution. Third, it can spread fear, uncertainty and doubt. There is the 'FUD' factor where Cisco says, 'We'll be in business for 10 years, and don't you want to go with us?''' biz.yahoo.com |
