Thanks for your response. I think there are a lot of us looking for shoulders to cry on. It is so frustrating knowing that you don't know enough and that someone can lead you wherever they want you to go.
Since I started this thread I had a conversation with another frustrated investor who had some other thoughts.
He feels that the interests of a stock broker are focused on 'Buying'. If the stock is doing well and it is time to get out and the company is not the promoter of the stock, then the broker would also encourage you to sell. No conflict of interest with his/her employer and he/she also makes money. This is when it works well for us clients.

But what if the employer was also the promoter? Neither my friend nor I could recall ever having been advised to sell any stock that the brokerage promoted.
For those on SI who have gone through all this BS this is old news. For those of us trying to get up the ladder, information like this is vital to making choices.
