The recent terrorists acts, from Lockerby onwards, plus the planned ones that failed as identified in papers found and threats made, cannot be permitted to continue.
Thus the war to take out terrorists, and to make it a firm statement with no missunderstanding by anyone,, the US had to say we would act unilaterally Thats not so easily done.
Israel is a special case and you know if the US steps directly into the action, it will ignite a powder keg.
We provide them weapons and money to defend their territory, an action proven to be needed in the 6 days war
or they would now be "history"
So its a real dilemma for Pres Bush as to what say and to recommend to the Israelis. Muslim nations know
if they hit Israel hard, we will be there (if needed) and they will lose their war machines in a matter of days.
Thus we are very reluctant to act, Sharon must find a way, has a right to defend the country from
Palestinian actions, and I am not in favor of saying he should not be doing that.
But I would not expect Pres Bush to be saying " Hey, go boy , lay it on them, take out those terrorists "
That would be fodder for those who consider US the aggressor. So he has to say something else and its up to us to decide just what he means.
