A Rebound In Tech Spending Seen Pushed Out To Early 2003

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- A rebound in technology spending probably won't materialize until early 2003, later than previously thought, according to executives and analysts.

Just three months ago, industry watchers were predicting a tech spending pickup in the second half of this year. But with corporate profits showing little life, hopes for a 2002 rebound have been dashed.

In January, the majority of chief information officers surveyed by Merrill Lynch & Co . said the rebound would come in the second half of this year, said Steven Milunovich, a technology analyst at Merrill. "Now there's a slight majority who are saying next year," he said....
