MSFT slaughtered AOL in terms of % and beat them out in terms of raw subscriber growth as well. Here's the press release that I was basing my comments on at the time of the original discussion.

jonkai is a liar and was hoping I'd lost the link. This is the most recent quarterly result for MSN. 1.2 million in growth from a starting point of less than 7 million is 17% in one quarter. AOL is growing at less than 15% per year.

REDMOND, Wash. -- Jan. 15, 2002 -- The MSN® network of Internet services today announced that MSN achieved record subscription growth in the United States during the past quarter, adding more than 1.2 million new subscriptions, with more than 7.7 million MSN Internet Access subscribers. For the first time, quarterly new-subscriber growth for MSN surpassed that of AOL during the same period in the United States.
