I see there is another response to your post, carranza, which states my thought. The problem as I see it is not that Israel cannot make peace (whoa, that's far more than a double negative, but perhaps you get the thought). But rather than Sharon cannot. His hatred of Arafat; his reputation given the two prior severe incidents; and his political vulnerability. All suggest he can't make a piece. Or if it is made, it will have to be in the context of an entire settlement--recognition, 67 boundaries, symbolic dealing with the right of return, etc. But, with that thought comes its corollary. The anger levels are simply too high, the bitterness too deep for that right now.
