There are some contradictions in the first paragraph of your post. Primarily that, the thing that bothers you is that man controls things.

Also, the forward progress of human beings (technologically) has been both hindered and helped by religious efforts. The historical ages of development have been influenced by many things. It is much more complex than simply reducing it to an anti-religious vent.

"You say you like the human race the way it is,Why are you so afraid? There is always room for improvement."

Human beings are not technobots. Efforts to disrupt an individuals humanity by treating him/her as anything other than and equal member of the whole is scary because it lacks conscience. Human beings who consider themselves to be of an "other" conscience are without regard for the human race. There is room for improvement on an individual level through growth, education, and development. Likewise on a societal level. I do not believe genetic improvements will result from cloning experiments and that seems to be your interest. That is scary because I seriously doubt that you will be in a position of responsibility if it were to turn out otherwise.
