The recording speed of that device is remarkable, Carl. And I imagine you would need over a gig of bandwidth to tap a T1 line. I believe AXC's fastest sustained transfer rate right now is on their disk recorders (for similar applications). 600 megs. The PVAT recorder would probably mate well in many instances with the DIS and DCT storage devices.
Interesting how the balance of checks has probably permanently changed after September 11th. Before that day, the US government (in my opinion) was ingeniously structured to a good measure provide protection from the state for the society. Governments normally far more dangerous than even the worst of individuals. But now that a few can do so very much harm, the formula is evolving, and I would imagine most every phone and cable line is monitored for certain keywords.
PVAT sounds interesting. Their company is less than 20 miles from where I live.
OT The AXC psychosis of mine..I had almost 5 years to take a profit...lol....and other nonstock life circumstances slowed my involvement with the markets wayyyy down. But I used to fancy myself a good stock picker...hit 28 of 32 but I wouldn't buy unless I REALLY found a stock a compelling value.
OT..and apologies for boring ya.. Though I have limited discretionary funds for investment nowadays, I have tried...more casually than I used to...to pick some stocks in the last 6 months.
First a group for some friends...for a tax deferred 401k transfer to a self directed IRA. I suggested a dividend growth reinvestment approach....always a dandy very long term in my opinion...and came up with a basket for them.. ALD, ACAS, WRI, WRE, HPT, HCP, KIM, ASN. As a group they have done very well in the last 6 months..market darlings right now, but they will surely correct in semilockstep someday....richly priced ( except maybe for ALD) right now...but they may stay up a long time..probably will. But the dividends will just keep growing each and every year ( HIGHLY probable).
My old starting point was usually going through earnings and insider trading reports each and every day...but I sure do not do that anymore..too many other responsibilities. I did wander through all of value line to gather 50 candidates for 1 to 3 year holds, but did it too slowly( over 3 months) so by the time I winnowed it down to 10, too many of the original 50 had already gone up in price too much ( Sea Containers a good example of that...at 10 they held stock in a company they were about to sell worth 160% of their capitalization alone). But finally came up with a list of 10.......I have not bought any of em yet though...lol....and while I might be comfortable going long with the group...it is mainly a group of anticipated 1 to 3 year sector recovery plays....I am not really crazy about any of em. But for what little it may be worth...not much to even me right now..lol... here they are VZ, OMM, TMA, TZH, PFE, NUAN ( highly speculative but huge cash balance as a buffer...but will their business ever truly catch on?), CWP, SEI ( but they restated a couple years of earnings...tough to sort out...still looks long term very cheap to me), WOR, FLEX.
Have a hunch the main values probably reside mostly in small caps..and I will start reading those daily earnings reports again.....someday....... |
