APWR's solar cells target the terrestrial market and yield around 10-11% conversion efficiency. Spectrolab's cells are essentially state-of-the-art, and the cost of this technology outweighs the increased efficiency in general (one significant exception is for space applications, where the efficiency/weight ratio is critical). The two companies do not compete, AFAIK.

Someday the multi-junction cells may be cost-competitive for terrestrial applications. But not today.
