Does that mean if I sing to you you will listen to me?
I always listen to you, because you are a voice of calm and reason. Singing, while not obligatory, would enhance my listening pleasure immeasurably. Let's think on how we could do that. :-)
It is a nice thought that woman restrains man's instinctively aggressive sexual behavior. And I do believe there is much truth to that. That argument, though, comes down to the same point Steven made -- that gay men are promiscuous, while straight men would be promiscuous. Even if true, the implication that we should not discriminate between thought on the one hand, and actual behavior on the other, is not convincing for me.
I think most reasonable people accept the fact that promiscuity is a problem that plagues the gay male community, to an extent nowhere matched by heterosexuals. Medical articles on STD's often mention the link to gay promiscuity, without even pausing to question the validity of the link, as if it were common knowledge. In the case of the priest scandals, where we have a heavily gay priesthood and an epidemic of boy molestation, I think it just stubborness to insist that there is no connection.
I don't hate gay people. I also do not have any special respect for them because of their sexual orientation. There are behaviors I object to among all people, including gays, and I will continue to express my objections.
I am always open to new options and new ideas, as we all should be. |
