c'mon now...INTC's goodwill is $5 billion that now doesn't get factored into eps...That's close to $1 dollar eps...

OK, but that would only be for one year, not every year. If Intel hired a new CEO from outside, that person would probably write off most of that goodwill. But if Intel reported a $4 billion writeoff, everyone would look at it as just a one-time charge, an embarassment that was going away.
