Re: "INTC keeps posting a positive eps, yet S/E at best has declibned by almost $2 billion in the past year"

From 1Q01 to 1Q02 shareholder equity declined by $1B (it was $1.5B for the prior qtr YOY). However, during these same periods the Goodwill amortized (not counting the separate entry for Amortization of acquisition-related intangibles and costs) was $1.27B ($1.71B). So the "equity" lost by the shareholders was Goodwill.

Assets dropped from $46,249 to $44,389 down $1.8 Billion dollars.

Goodwill dropped from $5,037 to $4,338 down $699 Million dollars.

Bottom line: A "real" loss of $1.1 Billion dollars for the year.

And an acknowledgement that they should have taken $699 million in costs during some of those quarters that they were reporting huge profits.

Current Assets $18,739 & $17,489 - Down $1,250 and consistent with a loss of a little over a Billion

Current Liab. $7,387 & $6,605 - Down $782 (this is good news for Intel) and could indicate the the year's loss was more like half a Billion.
