Maybe, maybe not. If you recall, the first Palominos were at 1GHz and 1.2GHz, at a time when the TBird was already shipping at 1.3GHz. It took about a quarter for AMD to exceed that speed with the Palomino, but they did. So the question is, should AMD have delayed those processors for another stepping, or should they have released them as they did?

As far as the lack of majors, well, Compaq just released a new laptop with an AMD processor only a week or so ago. I suspect that they will start using the TBred in their already existing designs without any fanfare at all since they should drop right in and be cheaper. Hopefully they will do a thin and light line with the SFF chips when they ship, even better if they use the new Trident video chip...
