Who says it's despair that led the girl to do murder? Most murders are done through rage.
Whatever the "structural reasons" leading to murders might be, I doubt despair is high on the list.

I would like to respond to this post but can't find a straightforward way to do so.
But let me take an oblique shot just to see. If I understand the overall argument of your post, you see the failure in the ME as one of leadership on both sides. I would not disagree with that point. However, in my original post about this issue, I was addressing a different issue, whether judgments which depended on "moral clarity" could leave the occupation, settlements, despair among the Palestinians, and the large social inequities out of the picture. Leaving those out is moral blindness, not clarity.
I did not make an argument for suicide bombing; I was arguing for a full attempt to come to terms with its origins before passing judgment on it.
The only other assertion I made, which was a-by-the-way kind of assertion but one that is important, is that the Palestinian suicide bombing is qualitatively different from Al-Qaida.
As for the rest of your post, it looks to me as if we'll just have to agree to disagree. Perhaps for the above as well. |
