Both are fueled by hate and rage against what is essentially Western culture--no qualitative difference there. Hmm.....having trouble with this "qualitative difference" claptrap, especially when the net result is dead innocent civilians. Let me offer a bit of "claptrap" back. Though we are definitely getting to the point at which we are all repeating ourselves. Two points. First, if you wish to argue that the line to draw between moral and immoral actions in war is the targeting of innocent civilians, then consistency calls for you to note the US did the same with the Dresden fire bombing and Hiroshima/Nagasaki. I actually think that's a very important line to draw so have not argued these actions are moral. I have argued that to understand them and to condemn them as immoral one has to examine the structural contexts out of which they come. As for the Al-Qaida comparison with the Palestinians, the equivalence you offer, that both are caused by their hatred for Western culture, misses the mark. I have little doubt that what causes them to have legitimacy among lots of Palestinians is the troubled history of Israeli occupation.
