Hi jcky,
About the virtual child porn SC decision, you'd said
I don't believe the government can solve all of society's ills. And this is one of them. Big Brother just isn't a substitute for good parenting.
I don't believe that the propensity to make or use child pornography is going to be solved by "good parenting" unfortunately. While I agree with the court decision, it's not clear to me that there isn't going to now be a boom in the production of virtual child porn, snuff films, and the like.
WRT to studies linking pornography to the perpetration of violent crimes against women, it depends on how you look at it. I'd like to see some attempt on the part if researchers to distinguish between films involving consensual sex between adults and other types of porn: that involving children, that involving violence against men/women/animals, and that involving the killing of women and animals (I'm unaware of any films involving the ritual killing of men for sexual pleasure, but they may be out there).
It's true that women who were sexually abused as kids are more likely to enter the adult film industry. They're also more likely to become prostitutes, abuse their own kids, and have substance abuse problems, as do male sexual abuse victims.
I'll google for studies, but time is tight today... |
