If you configure server grade (as opposed to desktop PC) Wintel hardware, I think you'll find that there's little, if any, price differential for similar capabilities, contrary to popular belief. Sun has servers starting at under $1K list price. Sun is also the only place you can get binary compatible scaling from that price point all the way up to the $1 million + class of machine.

In addition, the Wintel crowd ignores the cost of software licenses. Price the server versions of Windows some time and compare with the price of Solaris (free up to 8-way, as I recall).
