Iomega to make a Buz July 10, 1997
MacWEEK via Individual Inc. : Iomega Corp. is readying the Buz, a hardware and software package that will combine SCSI acceleration and JPEG compression. Expected to be released in the fourth quarter, the $199 Buz will include an audiovisual PCI card and a breakout box. It will use Ultra SCSI-3 technology from Advanced System Products Inc. of San Jose, Calif. Buz will also include hardware-based JPEG video-compression functions; Iomega said these will be software-switchable from 1:1 to 80:1 ratios. The device will capture 640-by-480, 320-by-240 or 160-by-120-pixel NTSC video at 30 frames per second with 44.1-kHz stereo audio, Iomega said. It will also support PAL resolutions. Included on the mouse-size breakout box, which will plug into the PCI card's SCSI port, will be stereo audio in/out, composite video in/out and S-video in/out, and an internal connector for future OEM add-ons. The kit, aimed at multimedia users, will come with HotShots, an image-editing and cataloging program from PictureWorks Technologies Inc. of Danville, Calif. Iomega will also bundle its RecordIt audio-capture product (see 06.09.97, Page 17). The company said it will bundle a video-editing package but has not decided which one.
