Inadequate reason, IMO. You can also plea bargain the first perp you catch and get him to rat on the rest. The first gets off; the rest get fried.

Someone rotting in prison can always decide they want company.
And unless you plea bargain him (which you could have done in the first place), why should he talk? He's already doing the worst- -life w/o parole.
