"What I find offensive is the prevailing philosophy of a growing number of U.S. corporations that "only profits matter; people don't"

I do too.

"What these folks don't realize is that as the urban core goes, so goes the entire metro area"

I realize that. Why doesn't the democratic party TACKLE some of the issues created in these inner cities instead of BLAMING the ones who are not at fault? That is the core of the difference in our opinions. Better to complain and tarnish (it seems to me) than DO SOMETHING to FIX the problems.

"Unions didn't evolve in the United States in a vacuum"

I realize that, and suppose that unions have a legitimate place in some circumstances even now. But in general they are past their prime need, and individiuals would be best served to equip themselves the best they can, and CHOOSE who they will work for. For people who cannot choose, you can fight against SPECIFIC grievences, but the philosophy of slamming management as some evil group is ridiculous imo.

"large-level deficit spending has once again reared its ugly head"

So what. We are at war. If you don't like deficit spending, fight to cut some of the unnecesary social programs (note: I'm not saying all social programs are unnecesary). We've been in defecit spending big time since the Reagan years for the most part, and the last financial pain I remember was when Carter was President and when the unrealistic feel-good-Clinton-greed-bubble burst.

"Sorry, you don't impress me as someone who knows much more than what the Republicans spoon-feed you"

That shows that you cannot judge your opponents very well. I am an independent thinker who puts a lot of emphasis on honesty and integrity. I happen to believe that the repubs have more of it than the dems, but make no claims that all repubs are good.

"Rich people should pay more taxes than poor people"

They do, and you didn't answer my question. I don't think you can without showing the hypocricy in your position. Feel free to give it a try.
