SAN JOSE -- In a move to bolster its silicon foundry business, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) outlined its "multimedia" technology roadmap to enable a new class of chips for flat-panel displays, liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS) microdisplays and other products.

The silicon foundry giant announced the roadmap during its Technology Symposium last week in San Jose. At the event, Hsinchu-based TSMC outlined and unveiled its bold and aggressive 90-nm (0.090-micron) process technology (see April 9 story ).
