4/17/02 - Nextel Revenue Increases 22% Over Year Ago

Boston, Apr 17, 2002 (MidnightTrader via COMTEX) -- Nextel Communications (NXTL) reported this morning its Q1 revenue increased 22% over last year's Q1 domestic revenues to about $2 billion, which was ahead of the $1.9 billion forecast by Wall Street.
During the quarter, Nextel said it added 502,000 domestic subscribers finishing the quarter with about 9.2 million domestic subscribers.

The company said it posted a consolidated loss of $0.82 per share, which includes a charge. Excluding the charge, the loss was $0.35 per share. Analysts polled by First Call were expecting a loss of $0.40 per share.

Looking forward, Nextel said it is on track to meet or exceed its 2002 targets, and the company expects to reach positive free cash flow by 2004 or earlier.

NXTL is rising this morning on 21,900 Instinet shares.
