KDDI announced overnight that it expects to have "at least" 280,000 subscribers to 1x after the first month. Nokia announces this morning it disappointing numbers.

I am sure QCOM will take a dive today.

But of these two events, which carries the greater significance for the prospects for QCOM? A powerful reaffirmation of 1x commercial appeal( they ain't giving them away over there, Mucho), or the fact that the world's largest manufacturer of legacy 2g handsets, and incidentally the world's most incompetent CDMA handset maker, is lowering guidance.

Price action today is as irrelevant as it is predictable.
