scott,
The U.S. needs to practice a little more 'tough love' with Israel -- a democratic country that we should support (but not in an unconditional way).
It will never happen for two reasons:
1. campaign funds and lobbying from pro Israeli groups.
2. the threat of senators and congressmen murdered by Israeli extremists in America. A member of an Israeli fundamentalist sect murdered his own prime minister when he was close to peace. Can you imagine what terror these fundamentalists could inflict on American soil in the name of protecting Israel's interests? The hatred and bigotry by these groups is well funded with deep roots and they will stop at nothing, including murder, to obtain their goals.
Let me cite their leader, Israeli prime minister Sharon, one more time.
"Even if you prove to me that the present war....is a dirty immoral war, I don't care," he said. ". . . Even today I am willing to volunteer to do the dirty work for Israel, to kill as many Arabs as necessary, to deport them, to expel and burn them, to have everyone hate us. . . . And I don't mind if after the job is done you put me in front of a Nuremberg trial and then jail me for life. Hang me if you want, as a war criminal . . ."
IMO, Sharon's comments approve and encourage uncivilized behavior, especially by Israeli extremists. And this is what America defends and supports? It appears America is headed for yet another foreign policy disaster. |
