I think it was Barak, Sharon has said it isn't feasible.

But with the fractal nature of the boundaries between the Palestinians and the colonists ?

Short of a shoot-to-kill Berlin Wall I'm unsure how effective it could be. The cases of airtight boundaries seem better at keeping people in than out.

A "fence" would doom the Palestinians to poverty without open trade with Israel. Though it's already clear that the PLO has had no regard for the average Palestinians economic well-being, preferring to sacrifice all for their goal. One can wonder about Israeli leadership concern for economic considerations either given what I hear about the costs of the the responses to the Intifada.

Again, I assume that the West is going to foot a large part of the bill of helping the Palestinians in the camps out of their mess. As long as the dream is to eject Jews from the region and install Islamic law, can a fence really accomplish much about the underlying problem ?
