US Senate Rejects ANWR Oil Drilling Nice to see the Senators who voted against this (Democrats AND Republicans) resist the slimey side-deals prominent supporters of ANWR were trying to link this and voted it down on principle. ------------------- The Senate defeated a measure Thursday to allow oil exploration in the Arctic Refuge, killing what Republicans call a central part of President Bush's plan to revamp America's energy policy. By a vote of 46 to 54, senators not only failed to overcome a Democratic-led filibuster, but also fell short of mustering the 51 votes needed to argue that the majority of the Senate supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). cnn.com
