IBM sells systems to end users, and a part of that sale has always been service/consulting. That's what they are good at.

Nothing wrong with services, if that's what you are good at. Nothing wrong with the grocery business either, but that doesn't mean I think Intel should get into the grocery business.

Generally, I want companies that I invest in, to spend their money and use their talents in areas where they have proved to be very competent. Intel is the very best at making complex components. Getting into very different businesses, where the competition is probably more focused and experienced, is not the most effective way for Intel to make money. Intel admitted as much when they discontinued most of their retail products.

Somehow the server farms survive, and waste shareholder dollars. Maybe Saturn is right and they are a lab to develop and test server chips. That's the only justification that makes any sense at all.
