If it was OK for Britain to drill in the North Sea, why is it not OK for the US to drill in ANWR?

OK, I'll explain slowly for those with differently abled minds (or whatever the PC term is for the RWET these days):

1) No one said it was OK. Not me, not anyone here.

2) Extracted oil is not replaceable in human timescales - once out, it's gone. So any, every and all damage, spoilage and wastage is irreversible.

3) Hard one, here. So read carefully.
The North Sea is NOT a protected environment.
The ANWR IS a protected environment.
The WR bit stands for Wildlife Reserve. This means it is a place designated to protect and preserve animals (of plants) which without protection would not survive.
So, the land is meant to be protected from f*cking big holes being drilled in it. It is meant to be preserved from having volatile toxins spilt all over it. It is NOT meant to have oil wells dug all over it.
A subtle difference, but key.

4) Do you not want your children to have the choice of owning their own resources? Or do you not trust them?
Or do you just not give a f*ck so long as you have YOUR SUV?

5) When you speak about "everyone's" betterment, how much better off are your grandchildren - you know, the ones without oil, petrol, water or indeed fertile land?
Or are you sterile? Or, hey, maybe you're like JLA and have no testes? Sorry, was that a sore point?

Oh, I get it. "Everyone" means "probably my offspring".
ROFL. Like you're that lucky...
Buddy, I hope they meet the fate you've sown.
Maybe, if you're lucky, you'll get to bury your grandchildren. If you're not, they could be burying you. For fertiliser. But that's the free market, right?

--------------

Question 0. Abstract one.
You have a scarce, irreplaceable resource. It has various uses; it can be substituted in each, but in the short term this will cost more. Which is the best choice?
1) burn it all in really big engines, so that people can travel faster at their own convenience.
2) use it carefully but still burn it all, to avoid the costs of finding a replacement.
3) try using the replacements and save it for as long as you can. Pay more, short term, but maybe earn more in the longer (10+yr) period.

What do you do? it's not a trick question. It shouldn't, even, be a hard question...
