HILLSBORO, Ore.--TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. today announced a reorganization of its structure into four business units so that the company can more efficiently address diversified markets, increase its sales in Europe and Asia, and dedicate resources for module products.

The company today also reported a 4.6% sequential decline in revenues to $62.4 million for the first quarter compared to $65.4 million in Q4. TriQuint's sales were 42.9% lower than $109.2 million in the first quarter of 2001.

The lower sales resulted in a net loss of $2.2 million in Q1 vs. a net loss of $59.6 million, including one-time charges.

"Our results for the first quarter of revenue of $62.4 million and a loss per share of $0.02 reflect the seasonal downturn associated with wireless phone products and the continuing difficulties in the optical equipment market," said Steven J. Sharp, chairman, president and CEO of TriQuint. "We experienced growth in our defense and base station markets in the quarter.

"In addition, we had a positive book-to-bill ratio for our wireless phone products for the first time since 2000 as our customers begin to place orders related to our many recent design wins," he added.

Sharp said the company expects the second quarter revenues to be nearly equal to Q1 sales--in a range of $60-to-$63 million--and earnings per share between breakeven and a loss of $0.02.
