I totally agree! It is clear that the damage done is not being paid for by the market. All houses now are being made using tensile skin spinterboard over sub-dimensional 2x4s (this is not based upon any "new" technology). The reason this didn't happen years ago was that the true value of old-growth heart wood was not being accurately accounted for. I think, though, since inefficient, non-free market dynamics (not really based upon a true COGS) have been in play for almost 150 years, that the Earth needs a bit of a rest. We owe it to the other owners: those not born.
