Dear VFD: OT
Whatever you do, whatever it costs dont give up your health insurance. My brother retired early at age 62 and thought he and his wife could COAST to 65 without insurance. WRONG, she developed diabetes, had complications, required several surgeries and in no time at all HE WAS WIPED OUT. Only thing they didnt get was his pension and his IRA but his life time savings spent. Its so expensive today to go into the hospital and all the tests they run only a MULTIMILLIONAIRE could possible selfinsure. If worse comes to worse get a part time job just to have insurance coverage. Its a CRIME that they dont allow us early retirees to buy into a govt sponsored health plan like medicare. I am not asking for a handout, I would pay the full premium, but it would be much smaller as a group plan then when trying to get it alone. Check out your state, some have plans for people like us.
