ANWAR would reduce the risk to national security, but would not eliminate it.

I totally agree, but big problems have to be solved in small steps. In fact, the best solution to the national security issue is to acquire increased production capacity through a series of small increments, so as to minimize dependence on any particular source.

I don't care whether we drill there or not; I just think it makes good sense to have these ridiculous legal barriers cleared so that in the event it is needed, it can be used.

The overriding point, in my mind, is that there is no legitimate reason for arbitrarily excluding this 2000 acres from development. It is simply a liberal political power play.

The argument that it will somehow produce lasting damage to the environment is laughable. Net-net, it is likely to be environmentally HELPFUL, not harmful.
