The real deal here is the liability for their previous actions with regards to fiduciary duty towards the firms' client base. That will be a tough corner for Wall St firms to wiggle out of. Especially with Merrill who orders its' brokers only to recommend stocks that are recommended by the firm. All the plaintiffs lawyers will have to do is connect the dots. This will be yet another reason for people to move towards the discount service model. all imho.
