By a large amount. The problem is that if you use a hydrocarbon fuel, you need to run it through a reformer to get the hydrogen. And they aren't small. And carrying pure hydrogen is not practical. Metal hydrides could be used, but they are tricky. Sodium borohydride is the most appealing method, it can be handled as a room temp. liquid, it won't burn, it's not explosive, it's reasonably non-toxic and can have an energy density close to gasoline. But you need the infrastructure in place...
