I thought I was well off when I got a raise in 1948 to $3,000 a year. In 1952, I topped $10,000. My retired father's comment was "well son, I am glad for you, but no one is worth $10,000!" Gives the young folks some idea what is really happening to the dollar. Saving in dollar denominated assets doesn't work well over time.
