HEWLETT-PACKARD CO - Strong Customer Demand For New Midrange UNIX Servers

New York, New York, Apr 19, 2002 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) --
Hewlett-Packard Company (www.hp.com) announced it is experiencing strong demand
for its midrange UNIX servers from enterprise customers. Multiple new wins over
the last four months highlight the continued success of HP's midrange UNIX
offerings, which deliver functionality typically reserved for high-end UNIX
computers. HP is the industry's number one provider of midrange UNIX servers,
according to analyst reports.(1)

Anchored by the 16-way HP Server rp8400, HP's midrange UNIX offerings have been
adopted by customers spanning a wide range of industries, including financial
services, health care, energy, information technology, manufacturing, freight
and transportation, retail and telecommunications.

Sales are strong with Global 500 customers such as ChevronTexaco Corp., Toshiba
Corp., Siemens Business Services, Deutsche Telekom and BMW, as well as with
other key customers such as PeopleSoft, Porsche, LG Communications, Compania
General de Electricidad SA, Aspecta Life Insurance, PSS World Medical, Keystone
Mercy Health Plan, Home Interiors and Gifts, Supermercados Unimarc SA and The
WEG Group, among others.

"High availability, scalability and high performance are the key features
critical to running our business. HP's ability to deliver a high-performance
server at a cost-effective price makes the rp8400 very compelling," said Brian
Finley, chief technology officer, PSS World Medical, Inc.

"The server's in-box upgrade capabilities provide us with the adaptability we
need, and the clear path to PA-RISC and IPF technologies ensures flexibility
while offering the ultimate investment protection options," said Finley.

"HP has held the leadership position in the midrange UNIX server market ahead of
Sun and IBM for the past five years," said Vernon Turner, vice president,
Worldwide Commercial Systems and Servers, IDC. "HP's long-standing leadership
results from the company's ability to continually deliver highly available,
flexible solutions that meet customers' IT infrastructure needs, and the rp7410
and rp8400 servers are great examples of this leadership."

The HP Server rp8400, introduced in September 2001, delivers industry-leading
performance and unmatched price/performance.(2) It provides lasting value and
unparalleled investment protection for key implementations such as server
consolidation, enterprise resource planning, supply chain management,
computer-aided engineering, customer relationship management and billing.

"The market traction that HP has made with the HP Server rp8400 is a clear
indicator of the continued enthusiasm for our industry-leading midrange
offerings," said Mark Hudson, director of worldwide marketing, HP Business
Systems and Technology Organization. "We're also starting to see solid customer
demand for the new HP Server rp7410, which recently began shipping worldwide. HP
is now offering the most robust midrange line-up the company has ever had."

HP recently expanded its midrange product portfolio with the introduction of the
HP Server rp7410, which brings the high-end features found in the rp8400 into a
smaller 8-way server at a lower price. The HP Server rp7410 offers the most
comprehensive high-availability feature set in the 8-way space,(3) including
partitioning, as well as an easy upgrade path to the HP Server rp8400.

The HP Server rp8400 recently earned top honors at the annual Server I/O
Industry Awards, held on Feb. 6 at the conclusion of the Server I/O Conference
and Tradeshow. The server was voted Product of the Year for 2001, edging out
products from five other finalists in an award showcase for the best new product
that became generally available in 2001.

Running HP-UX 11i, HP's robust enterprise UNIX operating system, HP UNIX servers
provide the foundation of customers' Internet infrastructure solutions. By
combining UNIX servers with adaptable software, high-availability storage
solutions and expert services, HP provides customers with complete Internet
infrastructure solutions that match their business needs. These solutions are
open, flexible and manageable so customers can ensure continual access and
increase their capabilities without increasing their overhead.
