Snow isn't sterile, and I wasn't suggesting we sacrifice it. But, I'm sure you knew that. Biodiversity is expressed in units like distinct species per hectare or something like that. The numbers in alpine climates are low. In warmer places that are wet, they are high. In California, there is less than 1% of the riparian woodland left. That's a hard pill to swallow. Everyone wanted the Army Corps to go and do "flood control". Hello???!! That's what the riparian woodland WAS doing.
