I would not have been opposed to such a measure. And I think if the Democrats were at all motivated by anything other than politics they would have been willing to pursue an arrangement like this.

You got it. There can be reasonable people with different opinions about ANWAR, but for Democrats, it is not about reason, it is just pure politics. They take advantage of the fact that vast majority of people are uninformed or actually misinformed about the issue of environment, and they will shamelessly exploit it.

Joe, you all don't seem to understand that the issue for many people including some of the Dem. politicians is more than about rhetoric. However, I think its a convenient way for you to blow off the whole issue. And I don't expect you will understand.......you have a value structure that sees the leaving of an oil source untapped a luxury that borders on criminal. Whereas for others of us, we see the tapping of that oil and the potential damage it may cause the environment as the crime.

Furthermore, I see it as a natural, almost instinctive imperative that more and more people are growing concerned about the environment and trying to prevent more damage to it. And I am well familiar with the arguments by the oil interests and how they clearly think they can prevent any spillage. But one thing they can not do is guarantee there will be none and with even one spill, the ANWR environment could be screwed up for decades.
