Joe,

It's hard to say if an APCC XUPS merger/buyout would actually happen. APCC is primarily focused on 3KVA UPS' and below, and XUPS is focused on much larger UPS systems ~30KVA to 3MVA. It's very hard for a UPS company to focus on both ends of the spectrum.
One business (APCC) is a commodity type business, and the other (XUPS) is an engineering-intensive business. It's a rare company that can serve both segments well from an engineering, marketing, and service perspective.

One thing for sure is that all competitors will file formal anti-trust complaints to any type of merger/buyout, which could wind up in the courts for at least one year. There are a very small number of players in this industry, and any significant competitive advantage could seriously threaten the health of competitors.
