Had there been a reasonable discussion on the issue, Congress might have struck a balance between the environment, national security, and the global economy. But that would have risked the Dems now faltering hold on the Nader voters, so they almost have no other choice but to play partisan politics again. Tenchusatsu, it may be that its not the Dems you have to worry about in terms of holding onto voters. In a March IBD/TPP poll, while acknowledging the huge popularity of Bush, admitted that Bush's coat tails are not very long. Pre 9/11, the percentages identifying with the Dem and Rep parties were 33.8% and 31.2% respectively. Post 9/11 the numbers were 34% and 31.9% again respectively with both parties experiencing a minor uptick in popularity. IBD/TPP concluded that if Bush at the height of his popularity couldn't do more for the Rep. party, then it was expected that future increases would probably favor the Dems. Soooo......you might be wanting to focus more attention on your home party instead of expressing concern for the Dems. <g> BTW, the exact date of that poll was 3/11/2002........I don't have a link for it, however. ted
