For sure. But the reduction of supply and competition is what makes it more attractive, right ?

OK. But that is a possible negative for Seagate in the short run. Until the joint venture falls flat on its face. But for a while they may wreak havoc by trying to steal market share from Seagate. Though I also don't think the JV has much chance of success. I've worked on two collaborations between a US co and its Japanese partner, and I think they don't work. The geographic distance is too big. The language barrier is too much. I think after a while this will turn out to be an outright sale to Hitachi.

By the way, what's become of Finis Connor's chinese disk venture ? Did he flush $100m down the toilet again ?
