You (we) are not the totality of ownership for that resource. The due diligence is that which is reasonably expected by the future generations. If we're going to save all those babies from abortion, they are going to need somethign. Imagine being born 500 years from now, do you think that your FUTURE progeny (assuming you have some) will be happy that every whale was killed by overharvesting of the krill upon which they feed, or that the entire range of 10,000 species was eliminated and those species as well? Maybe YOURS will not have a chance if YOU get your way. I doubt MINE will because I'M instilling the values I have in their parents NOW and I'm aware that not only aware that they will exist, but feel a pretty big obligation to them. To each their own. Maybe you can live with this ugly future of greedy depletion... I can't.
