On the other hand, if Microsoft were to announce support for the (now hypothetical) Yamhill instructions, and not announce support for Hammer, it will raise the spectre of some sort of quid pro quo deal between Intel and Microsoft...
Of course, that's assuming that intel wants Microsoft to announce support of Yamhill, but they don't. As Jerry has so well demonstrated, it's AMD that needs to get down on their kness to Microsoft, not intel. Intel only needs Microsoft support for Yamhill IF.....IF, Microsoft announces support of Hammer, which it seems in the near term they can't. Intel could just as easily leave Yamhill dormant, keep their foot on AMD's X86-64 throat, with no OS support, and go with IA-64, which already has announced Microsoft support. No "qpq" at all, just smart business.
