GSM players eye Edge despite transmit woes
commsdesign.com
Still a few bugs to be worked out in EDGE handset design, it seems.
Excerpt: Now, most members of the industry see 56 kbits/second as the high-end rate for clients operating on a GPRS network. With Edge, Patel said, operators can deliver a practical bandwidth of 60 to 64 kbits/s.

Wait a minute. Cingular was saying users could expect average throughput speeds of 100kbs -150kbs in a fully loaded environment with EDGE last Wednesday. See library.northernlight.com

If EDGE only averages 60 to 64kbits, Verizon and Sprint PCS do not have to worry a lot about EDGE.
