Point noted, cosmic, it is a good one, i wasn't disagreeing with you in any way ... around here the same things have happened, if to lesser degree then only due to lesser population pressures in those days ... people just didn't think about the effects of their actions in some ways ... for instance salmon spawning grounds - loggers here [and there, all over this coast everywhere] used to yard logs right through them, didn't matter the time of year or the consequences of disturbance and accumulation of debris destroying all use to the salmon ... no one thought about it, salmon just weren't part of logging thought .... well a few thought of them, and then shrugged, said to themselves oh well the salmon will have to go elsewhere .... but they don't, you see, they find by smell the place they hatched, no other will do
Ideology is great stuff, i find myself attracted strongly to that of von Mises and de Soto, it really rings true in my conception of the human experience ..... but it didn't seem to do the salmon a whole lot of benefit, and they too have a place on this little sphere, with property rights in full it could be argued, a claim to the commons |
