Bill, you are 100% right about XP or XBOX and most soft.

I always tried to explain that piracy should never be a concern for software maker. It's like tax evasion for those who work "under the table". As long it's do not exceed 20% of the market, government should not try to recover those tax efficiently. The work they do usually wouldn't be done at all if fully taxed.

The same for piracy. It's not a lost market at all. Software piracy is not free, a lot of downloading required, no after sale service… Trying to eliminate piracy would not increase revenue, probably reduce it. Warez are free promotion of a product. Those who will buy the product will do it after a friend will have tested and recommend it, and that friend is probably a warez and don’t use it for other purpose than to know it.

Bill Gate know that. At one point in time, concerning China pirating MS's product, he said: "What important is that it's MS's product that are pirated. We will collect royalty later and when and where it will be possible."
