A moth or so ago we had a few weeks of just continuous 20-25 knot winds. I sailed a lot in it, but always seemed to have other people's kids on the boat, or screamy people that freaked out if I lifted the windward hull. I finally got tired of being conservative and invited a surfer friend out, just the two of us. Serious speed day. Had lunch at a beach place, went back out. After about an hour I noticed that the starboard hull was riding really low, like it had taken on water. As soon as I decided to move back to lift the bow, we went down a wave, buried the hull, and planed down at about a 45 degree angle. Pitchpoled the thing, complete forward flip. Took half an hour to get it upright. The hull had a lot of water in it. Turned out that while we were eating lunch some jackass had walked down the beach and punched two holes in the hull, looked like it was done with a screwdriver or similar implement. Luckily there are guys here that build boats and are good with fiberglass. It was easy enough to fix. Last time I park the boat on that beach, though.
