Applied Data Systems Named One of Washington’s Fastest Growing
Companies in Washington Techway’s Fast 50

Columbia, Maryland (March 5, 2002) - - Applied Data Systems (ADS), a leading developer of application-ready RISC-based embedded systems, announced that they have been named to Washington Techway’s prestigious “Technology Fast 50” program for Washington DC – Baltimore region, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the area. Rankings are based on the percentage of growth in revenues from 1997 – 2001. Applied Data Systems was recognized as the 29th fastest growing company in the Fast 50.

“In an era where technology companies come and go, being named to the Technology Fast 50 is a testament to a company’s leadership and its ability to have not only the right solution for that moment in time, but also the vision that allows growth over the five year period. Applied Data Systems has proven that it has the leadership to succeed and we salute their accomplishments,” said Dave Jones, partner, Ernst & Young.

“We are surprised and pleased to be recognized as part of the Technology Fast 50 Program,” stated Robert Olsen, president of ADS, “We’ve always believed that developing quality products, listening to our clients and empowering our team will ultimately result in success. We are honored to be recognized.”

Applied Data Systems designs and manufactures embedded single board computer systems, with a family of products that enable wireless, mobile and Internet-connected applications. The company has differentiated itself with “application-ready” systems, that include robust boards with low power consumption, operating systems, and low level drivers integrated and ready for development. ADS customers range from telematics/trucking industry systems to instrumentation to kiosks/retail to medical device companies. A recent customer application of a ruggedized handheld with voice-activated phrase recognition was featured in 2/25/02 issue of the New York Times.

To qualify for the Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $1,000.000 during the first reporting year and minimum revenue of $1 million during the fifth reporting year. The contest measures fiscal-year revenue growth, which often, but not always, coincides with the calendar year.
